SRINAGAR : A 24-year-old woman was killed and another woman injured after the scooty they were riding was hit by an unidentified tanker on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district on Friday.
According to officials, the accident occurred in the Seri area when the tanker, travelling from Srinagar towards Jammu, allegedly hit the scooty after its driver lost control of the vehicle.
The two riders were shifted to District Hospital Ramban, where one of them was declared dead on arrival. The injured woman is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The deceased was identified as Shakeela Banoo, 24, wife of Sameer Tantary and a resident of Boli Bazar, Ramban. The injured pillion rider was identified as Rafiya Farooq, 26, daughter of Farooq Ahmed Wani and a resident of Kundi Karol.
Police have initiated an investigation and efforts are underway to trace the tanker and identify its driver. (KNO)
