SRINAGAR: A woman was rescued after a cloudburst triggered flash floods in the Mayain Lachipora area of Boniyar in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday, officials said.
The cloudburst caused a sudden surge of water and debris in a local stream, leading to flash flooding and panic among residents, they said.
Officials said the Tehsildar Boniyar, SDPO Uri and SHO Bijhama, along with rescue teams, rushed to the spot and safely evacuated the woman, who had become trapped inside her house due to the flooding.
Residents said the overflowing stream has heightened fears in the area and urged the authorities to take immediate preventive measures, warning that further rainfall could lead to more damage.
Officials said the situation is being closely monitored and appealed to residents to remain cautious. Locals also sought long-term measures to protect the vulnerable area from future cloudbursts and flash floods.(GNS)
