Agitated people Saturday staged a massive protest against the inaction of police to nab the erring driver of a speedy vehicle allegedly responsible for the death of a 38 year old woman Hameeda Begum in Magam Handwara in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Hameeda Begum was seriously injured after a speedy unknown vehicle hit her in Magam Handwara. The driver after hitting the woman escaped from the spot while Hameeda Begum succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.

Eyewitnesses told CNS hundreds of protesting locals after blocking the road in Magam for 4 hours marched towards police station Handwara and staged a massive protest outside the police station. Amid anti police slogans the protesters alleged that police have not pursued the case seriously, a charge denied by police.

A police official said that lack of witness is the biggest hurdle to solve the case. “We are on it. Investigation has been started and we will leave no stone unturned in tracking down the erring driver,” said the police official.
