Police arrested a dozen of Burqa clad women belonging to Muslim Khawateen Markaz (MKW) in Regal chowk as they were demanding release of all the political prisoners on the eve of Eid-Al-Azha.

MKM is a women wing of Hurriyat (M).

With placards holding in their hands and shouting anti India slogans the activists led by Yasmeen Raja were intercepted in Regal Chowk and arrested by police. They were arrested for violating the laws in implementation, police said.

Meanwhile Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (ML) has denounced the continued detention of their leader Masarat Alam Butt despite quashing of his Public Safety Act (PSA).

“Police were flouting the court orders in the territory,” a ML statement said.

The statement reads Udhampur Jail Superintendent in defiance of the quashing orders of Masarat Alam Butt had refused to release the jailed ML leader.

League has appealed to the international human rights organizations to take a notice of the plight of detained Hurriyat leaders and activists languishing in different jails in Kashmir and outside.
