Scores of women on Tuesday raised “Azadi slogans” at a function in SKICC, Srinagar after throwing furniture and bottles towards the dice leaving the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and organizers surprised.

Reports said that Rural Development Department had organized a meeting of Self Help Groups at SKICC to interact with CM.

It was reported that the trouble started very early at the gate of SKICC when women participants objected to enter the SKICC alleging they had been brought to SKICC deceitfully.

However, the organizers somehow managed the situation and brought them in.

Reports said that amidst anger of the women participants as the chief minister appeared in the lawns of SKICC after delivering lecture inside, the angry participants started raising “Azadi slogans” and threw chairs, water bottles and other furniture towards the dice.

“We had been called for some UMEED function and not told that Mehbooba will be here,” reports quoting angry lady who was among hundreds of women who left the venue raising slogans “Hum Kya Chahtay Azadi”.

However, CM Mehbooba Mufti later told a news gathering agency that Women were present in large numbers and probably a lady fell unconscious, seeing that others panicked. “Hope this programmme is organised again,” she said.

Meanwhile former chief minister Omar Abdullah took to twitter and retweeted a tweet of his party National Conference’s spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattoo.

Mattoo tweeted a video of the protest and wrote, “Women storm out of @MehboobaMufti’s event at SKICC and raise Azaadi slogans. Say they were coerced to attend the function. Wake up @JKPDP.”

Omar retweeted the same tweet and wrote, “This is what happens when the machinery of Govt is used for the sole purpose of rebuilding @MehboobaMufti’s non-existing credibility.”
