Scores of Dukhtaran-e-Millat activists on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration in Press Colony Srinagar against the slapping of draconian PSA on its chairperson Asiya Andrabi and her personal secretary Sofi Fehmeeda.

The protesting activists raised pro-freedom and pro-Pakistan slogans.

They said that the authorities have ordered shifting the two to Kotbalwal Jail in Jammu, in contravention of the Supreme Court of India’s orders, directing lodging of a detainee close to his or her home.

A severe asthma patient, Asiya Andrabi, was recently put on oxygen in the police lockup. She also suffers from arthritis. “She was taken to Chest Disease hospital Srinagar where doctors advised the police to admit her in the hospital because she needs to be put on oxygen. Instead, police brought her back to Police Station Rambagh where she has been lodged in an unhygienic condition allowing dust and dirt to enter her room. It causes trouble to her and puts her life in danger,” the protesting activists said.

Asiya and Sofi have been detained many a times under PSA in the past. The high court has on all the occasions quashed the detention orders and ordered their release.
