Clashes erupted Tuesday at busy Maisuma center as police fires tear gas on protesters who fought pitched battles over an alleged attack on Yasin Malik that took place in Islamabad district.

“His peaceful procession came under heavy attack by paramilitary and police,” JKLF spokesperson told Kashmir Life.

Malik was planning to hold 24 hour long hunger strike against the killing of Zahid in Islamabad Chowk. He is reported to be injured and bleeding, sources said. He had arrived at Batengo village earlier today to meet the family of Zahid and express solidarity. Sources said other senior separatist leaders including Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Javed Mir, Shabir Dar and Farooq Ahmad Dar also came under attack.

Scores of young men took to streets and lobbed stones at police personnel. Heavy tear gas shelling prompted traffic to flee from the area with the shop keepers closing down the shutters. Clashes were going on when this report was filed.
