Srinagar

Police on Friday detained Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chief Yasin Malik after he tried to march towards the UN office in Sonwar as part of the joint resistance programme.

Policemen detained Malik after he came out of Buchwara Jamia Masjid after offering congregational Friday prayers.

He had gone into hiding ahead of the proposed march to evade arrest, a JKLF spokesperson said. Police had raided his Abi Guzar office to arrest him yesterday evening.

Joint Resistance Leadership had called for a march to the UN office today to stage a peaceful sit-in against the recent civilian killings and rights violations in Kashmir.
