SRINAGAR: Ministry of External Affairs has strongly reacted to a Twitter statement by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) regarding Yasin Malik’s conviction and life imprisonment.

“India finds unacceptable the comments made by OIC-IPHRC [on Friday] criticising India for the judgement in the case of Yasin Malik,” MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi was quoted saying. “Through these comments, OIC-IPHRC has implicitly expressed support for the terrorist activities of Yasin Malik, which were documented and presented in the court. The world seeks zero tolerance of terrorism and we urge OIC not to justify it in any manner.”

Terming it a “travesty of justice”, OIC-IPHRC had used Twitter to condemn the “illegal conviction” of Malik on “concocted charges” in a “sham trial”. The organisation’s General

Bagchi said the comments were unacceptable as the sentencing was on basis of documented evidence. Malik was given a double life sentence – to go concurrently, after he pleaded guilty to all the charges levelled against him by the federal investigator, NIA.
