The Amarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended on Friday at both Baltal and Pahalgam route to the holy cave due to slippery road conditions following heavy rain during the night.

“The yatra has been temporarily stopped because of bad weather and slippery road conditions. The yatra will resume only after the weather improves,” said a senior police official.

Officials said that the decision has been taken to ensure the safety of all pilgrimages headed to the cave shrine.

On Thursday, the yatra had to be halted in the morning hours due to rain. However, some pilgrims were able to pay obeisance at the cave shrine later in the day when the weather improved partially.

Earlier in the morning, the second batch of 3,434 yatris left Yatri Niwas Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, for Amarnath Yatra.
