A fresh batch of 5124 pilgrims left Jammu for the cave shrine in the Kashmir Valley on Saturday, an official said.

“The pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas Jammu in an escorted convoy of vehicles for the Valley today,” he said.

An official said for Pahalgam route 2498 males, 426 females, 19 children and 187 sadhus left the base camp in 147 vehicles while for Baltal 1518 males, 438 females and 38 sadhus left in 79 vehicles including buses and LMVs.

The 45-day long annual Amarnath Yatra which started on July 1 has been going on smoothly. Till date, 67,228 pilgrims have paid their obeisance at Amarnath cave.

The 45-day Amarnath Yatra will end on August 15, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima festival.
