A youth shot at near an army camp in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday evening has succumbed to injuries today morning at SKIMS.

A youth identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Ganaie was shot in the head near army’s 50 RR camp in Chattergam area of Chadoora in Budgam. He was soon rushed to PHC Chattergam where doctors shifted him to SKIMS Srinagar for the advanced treatment in a critical condition, however, he succumbed to injuries today morning.

The details of circumstances in which the youth was killed are hazy, as the army has denied the “allegation.”

The Srinagar-based defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia in a statement said: “In a case of (militant) committed atrocity, Ishfaq Ahmad Ganie of Magraypora was shot at by the (militants), 500-600 metres away from Army Camp at Chatergam. When the Army troops heard the sound of firing, the Quick Reaction Team immediately rushed towards the direction of fire to find out what was happening.”

“When the party reached the spot, they saw Ishafaq Ahmad Ganie, son of Nazir Ahmad Ganie of Magraypora Khanda in a pool of blood. He had bullet injuries, one in the head and the other in the leg and was immediately taken to Chatergam hospital from where doctors shifted him to SMHS,” he said.
