Zahid a resident of Brein Nishat went out with his friends to play cricket on February 5, 2010 when a BSF contingent allegedly opened fire on them killing him on the spot. Following Zahid’s killing, police, under intense public pressure, registered a case vide FIR number 04/2010 under section 302/109, 201 of RPC at Police Station Nishat. The accused in the case were the BSF constable Lakhwinder Singh and his commandant R K Birdi. Both were sent to judicial remand by the civil court after which they were placed under detention by the Border Security Forces own custody at Pantha Chowk Srinagr.

“It was April 2015 when I along with some witnesses visited Pantha Chowk to record our statements. Both the accused were in lock up. The BSF court had told us that they will call us when the case will be listed for next hearing, but it has been 10 months now, we didn’t receive any call from BSF court,” Farooq Ahmed the father of the deceased youth told CNS.

“After the death of my little son life seems to be a burden for us. My husband is suffering from insomnia, daughter Farhat has been under depression, and I weep all the time missing my son,” mother of Zahid, Parveena Begum said.

The family members in one voice said that they will pursue the case till killers are not punished. “These killers have no right to live on this planet and they should meet the same fate as my Zahid has met,” they said.
