Amid strong pro-freedom and anti-India protests, the body of Zahid Ahmad Bhat was handed over to his family Sunday late evening.
Reports reaching here said that thousands of people had gathered at Zahid’s native village of Botengo in Islamabad district.
Zahid and two other Kashmiris came under a murderous attack by communal Hindu mob on 09/10 intervening month early this month. Zahid and one other, Showkat Ahmad, were flown to New Delhi for treatment where Zahid lost battle for life early today. Zahid had received 70% burn injuries in the petrol bomb attack.
Reports said that heavy clashes between forces and youth were going on in the area. Forces fired an unknown number of tire gas shells while youth resorted with stones amid Azaadi slogans.
MP Tariq Hamid Karra, who visited the victims in Safdarjung Hospital, said that Zahid’s respiratory system had swollen due to fire flames.
PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti along with Dr Haseeb A Drabu and Basharat Bukhari received Zahid’s coffin which was flown from Delhi early this afternoon. CVM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed expressed shock over Zahid’s death and had announced ex-gratia relief to his NoK.
Today i am very sad because of the killing of zahid…..very sad.who brought Justice….. Werely ALLAH will brought Insha Allah….we are not a part of india which indian people show by their cowardly acts.These political goons only show crocodile tears nothing else. Kashmir will rise Insha Allah
