SRINAGAR: A 10 MVA power receiving station at Zewan Bala has been operational with two outgoing feeders since April 2026, but Zewan Bala, Zewan Payeen and Zawoora are yet to be supplied through the station as the existing 6.6 kV network is being converted to 11 kV, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has informed the Legislative Assembly.
The Power Development Department said the receiving station, constructed by STD-I under the name ‘Receiving Station Zawoora (Transit Accommodation)’, currently has two charged outgoing feeders intended for the upcoming transit accommodation for migrants at Zewan Bala.
In response to an unstarred question by Lal Chowk MLA Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed Pardesi, the department said a proposal had been made to supply the entire Zewan locality through spare feeder No. 3 from the receiving station.
The existing distribution network operates at 6.6 kV, while the new receiving station is designed for 11 kV. The department said the conversion project was almost complete and the shifting of the feeder to 11 kV was being taken up and would be completed shortly.
The Government’s reply did not provide a specific date for switching Zewan Bala, Zewan Payeen and Zawoora to the new receiving station.
The MLA had asked whether the station had been established about a decade ago on land donated by local residents with the assurance that it would cater to the electricity requirements of the surrounding areas. The department’s response confirmed the construction and present operational status of the station but did not address the land donation or the stated assurance.
