Five army men and a civilian sustained injuries during an encounter between the forces and militants in Bandipora district on Tuesday morning, army sources said.

The injured soldiers have been airlifted to an Army hospital in Srinagar; the condition of some soldiers is said to be critical.

Sources said that 13 RR and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned off the Parray Mohalla locality of Hajin early morning after inputs about the presence of militants.

As per reports the gunbattle between the forces and militants was still on, and the number of injured forces personnel could be more than five. A police report said at least one militant was dead even though firing is going on intermittently.

One of the injured soldiers was reported to be critical and has been shifted to 92-base hospital in Srinagar.

The police and the army had launched a joint search operation early morning following a tip-off about the presence of militants in a residential house. The hiding militants fired upon them which triggered an encounter. In the initial shootout, five army soldiers and four policemen were injured.

As per reports after resorting to heavy firing, the militants tried to break the cordon. But they were trapped and one of them was killed.

Meanwhile, a civilian was also injured after protests erupted near the encounter site. He has been identified as Hilal Ahmad Parrey, son of Mustafa Parrey. He has received a bullet in his thigh.
