Only one-way traffic was allowed on the strategic Jammu-Srinagar highway on Friday due to the narrow width of the highway at different places between Udhampur and Banihal.
According to officials, “as a result of occurring of landslides from time to time, the width of the highway at different places between Udhampur and Banihal is narrow and as such allowing two-way movement of all sorts of traffic on the highway is not feasible.”
However, authorities have advised commuters to avoid traveling on the highway during night hours for their own safety, “chances of occurring of sudden landslides/shooting stones at any place en route cannot be ruled out.”
