PDP president Mehbooba Mufti’s ‘fear’ that the ‘rage’ among the people against not granting them new administrative units and people taking to ‘other ways’ seems to be ground feeling in her own area.

Since last cabinet meet that decided to create 659 administrative units, Srinagar’s Press Enclave has been very busy. Everyday loads of Sumos carrying protesting people have been making bee lines here.

Likewise, early Wednesday, people from Mehbooba’s constituency, Wachi, reached Press Enclave and started shouting slogans against government decision. They alleged that ‘justice has not been done to them’.

“Turke Wangam is a big village in Wachi constituency and is at central point between Shopian district headquarter and the last village of the district, Aglar. But unfortunately it has not been given Tehsil status,” a protestor said.

The protestors alleged that on the opposite side of their village, four villages were upgraded to Tehsil status. The villages fall at a distance of two kilometers each, they claimed. “It is due to NC MLC, Showkat Gania’s approach that Chitragam was upgraded to Tehsil status,” they said. “Likewise, Nazir Ahmad shah of Congress made it for Imam Sahib and Harman,” they added.

The protestors had come in a dozen vehicles with loud speakers fitted atop. “We want justice’, ‘Make Turke Wangam Tehsil’,” the loud slogans were heard.

The protestors threatened that they will die for the status but not budge. “We will end our lives but cannot keep silence over this gross injustice to us,” shouted protestors.

Meanwhile, on the other side in press colony, angry residents of Rawal Pora in Khan Sahib constituency of district Budgam, raised slogans against their MLA, Hakeem Yasin. “We voted him to power but instead of empowering, he has back stabbed us,” the protestors said amid strong slogans against Hakim.

The protestors claimed that the newly created Niabat, Kralnev is just one-third of the size of Rawal Pora but they have been sidelined.

While this all was going on keeping police and media men on tenterhooks, youth from central district Budgam started demanding ‘justice’ and ‘safeguarding’ district hospital Budgam. “The senior doctors at the hospital have turned to be time passers. They have been referring patients to Srinagar just for headache,” the protesters alleged.

They added that the Ayurvedic doctors in the hospital are prescribing Allopathic medicine against the procedure.
