For the first time, Real Kashmir Football Club (FC), a football team from Kashmir has played in the country’s top division on Wednesday.

FC has won the second division league to make it to the top tier while Minerva lifted its maiden crown the previous season.

Reacting to the victory, Jammu and Kashmir’s former chief minister Omar Abdullah appreciated the players for their achievement.

“That’s called a debut – @realkashmirfc defeat the defending champions in their opening match. Well done guys. Onwards & upwards. Here’s to more glory in the days ahead. It’s so nice to have something to cheer about. 1-0 was the score at final whistle,” Omar wrote on his twitter handle.
