Iqbal-Library-Kashmir-UniversityThe 10-day workshop on Econometrics, organized by Kashmir University’s Department of Economics in collaboration with Indian Econometric Society (IES), concluded on Thursday.

40 technical sessions were conducted during the workshop attended by participants from various parts of the country.

In his address, former Dean of KU’s Social Sciences Faculty, Prof Bashir A Khan stressed on importance of econometrics in contemporary times. “If econometrics is used as a complement to economics, then the prospects of employability are definitely much better. So it is very helpful to have some knowledge of econometrics,” he said.

Professor of economics and Controller of Examinations at KU, Prof AS Bhat said econometrics combines both mathematics and statistics and is a great tool “through which data speaks for us.”

Prof N R Bhanamurthy, Secretary IES said the Society is looking forward to more such meaningful collaborations with KU to popularize econometrics as a tool for research and data analysis.

In her remarks, Head of Economics Department, Prof Iffat Yasmin, emphasized on importance of econometrics for policy planning and governance systems.

Coordinator of the workshop Dr Javed Iqbal Khan conducted proceedings of the valedictory session and Dr Sakina presented vote of thanks.
