15 police personnel were injured in north village of Trehgam when angry people chased and caught hold of them in the local block medical officer’s office. The reinforcement teams of CRPF and army reached the spot who used aerial firing and tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters.

Confirming the injuries to 15 policemen, B M O Trehgam, Dr Mohammad Ashraf said, “They were all injured and three of them had fractures in their legs.”

The trouble started at 11:30 in the morning when everything was peaceful amidst complete shutdown.

 “Suddenly the SHO of local police station appeared with his team of 15 personnel, the senior citizens objected about the deployment by calling it unnecessary. The SHO did not hear the local senior citizens and left his men there,” said a local to Kashmir Life on Phone. He added that the youngsters present around strongly objected the behavior of the SHO resulting in the scuffle between them and the unarmed policemen.

The eyewitnesses also confirmed that the police men were not carrying any kind of weapons. They added that the angry youth on seeing them unarmed pelted stones and chased them. The police personnel entered the premises of the local block medical officer to take refuge but the youngsters too barged in and start beating them injuring all the fifteen.

Police spokesman confirmed the injury of one constable namely Ishfaq. The spokesman said that ishfaq’s one eye was injured by a stone.

Police called the reinforcement of CRPF and army who fired several rounds in air to disperse the mob. The forces used tear smoke shells and the ding dong battles were on when the reports last came in.
