More than 2 lac cases both civil and criminal are pending in various district and high courts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Minister for Law and Justice Abdul Haq Khan on Tuesday said this in response to a question of Congress MLC Ghulam Nabi Monga in the upper house today. He said that 59,526 cases are pending in the high court and 1,43292 cases are yet to be decided in the subordinate courts.

According to the govt, of the above mentioned cases; 54060 civil and 5466 criminal cases are in the High Court while 49006 civil and 94286 criminal cases are in the subordinate courts.

The government has further said that a proposal for creation and establishment of eight fast track courts of the rank of District and Session Judge and 10 fast track courts of the rank of the civil judge senior division for trial cases related to women is under active it’s active consideration.

Government accepted that it is short of 7 judges in the high court. Against the sanctioned strength of 17 judges, high court has 10 judges in place.
