Police in civvies apprehended three LeT militants in Srinagar on Tuesday during a ‘special operation’, sources told Kashmir Life on Wednesday.
“The special operation achieved a huge success Tuesday evening when we caught hold on three LeT militants in Srinagar, one in the Hazratbal and another two in the Kadekadil area of old city,” a police official, wishing anonymity told Kashmir Life.
“The special operation has been started after inputs from the intelligent sources that some militants have succeeded in sneaking in the city and are planning an attack on the forces,” he added.
Everybody was surprised when four unidentified persons (who later turned to be police cops in civvies) shot a youth in his foot and bundled him along with his companion in a Sumo vehicle in Kadikadil Tuesday afternoon.
Eyewitnesses told KL that two youth were on their way in Kadikadil area when four persons in civvies intercepted and started frisking them. “In the meantime, one of the youth tried to flee from the spot while one among four unidentified persons took out his pistol and shot him in his foot,” the eyewitnesses said.
The unidentified persons caught hold of the two youth and ‘forcibly’ stopped a public vehicle. “All the passengers from the vehicle were dragged out and the two apprehended youth were bundled into it and taken away,” the eyewitnesses added.
“Earlier, during the day a special unit of police had arrested Lateef Ahmad, a LeT militant from Hazratbal area,” police sources said, adding “Lateef led police to Kadikadil after preliminary interrogation.”
Police sources said that Lateef Ahmad is from Chadoora area of district Budgam were a Station House Officer (SHO) was killed in a militant attack some time back.
Sources said that Lateef and other two apprehended suspected militants in Kadikadil, later led police to Yechkoot village of Budgam resulting in an encounter.
However, the militants holed in the cordon managed to flee taking advantage of the darkness, sources said.
