SRINAGAR: In a major step towards swift and cost-effective justice, the Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority successfully resolved 374 matrimonial and accident cases during a Special Lok Adalat held across the Union Territory. A total of 892 cases were taken up, resulting in settlements amounting to Rs. 8.38 crore, providing much-needed relief to the litigants.
The Special Lok Adalat was organised under the patronage of Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and the guidance of Justice Atul Sreedharan, with a focus on resolving long-pending motor accident and matrimonial disputes. Chief Justice Rabstan, during his visit to Kupwara, inspected the ongoing proceedings and handed over settlement cheques to beneficiaries of successfully resolved claims. He highlighted the importance of these initiatives in ensuring timely justice, especially for those in remote areas.
Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul, Judge, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, also inaugurated the Special Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex in Anantnag and distributed settlement cheques to claimants. Justice Koul emphasised the role of Lok Adalats in reducing case backlogs while providing quick relief, particularly in accident and family disputes.
The next Special Lok Adalat, focusing on revenue cases, is scheduled for 16 November 2024.
