In Jammu and Kashmir in last three years 4093 students have been provided Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS).

The scholarship has been given to the students to pursue different professional and general degree courses in various colleges outside state.

In a written reply in the state legislature on Tuesday, Government claimed that in 2014-15, 1406 students were benefited by this scheme.

The number however has dipped, as per the government documents as 1147 students were awarded PMSSS.

The number again surged to 1540 students in year 2016-17, the government documents claim.

Meanwhile, government has agreed to the fact that some of the students of the state are being harassed by the college authorities at the time of examination.

“Few complaints of the harassment of some of students were reported in case of students who obtained admissions through middleman/ brokers (not through AICTE counseling),” the documents claim.

The cases were referred to concerned police authorities, the documents state, and state government were also requested to proceed against such institutions.
