SRINAGAR: As many as 427 schools in Jammu and Kashmir and 41 in Ladakh have been selected under the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme, according to data placed before the Lok Sabha.
The figures were provided by Minister of State for Education Shri Jayant Chaudhary in reply to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 1296, answered on July 27, 2026, in response to a question raised by Shri S Venkatesan.
The data, sourced from UDISE+ 2025-26, also showed that teachers appointed for non-Hindi native languages in PM SHRI schools in Jammu and Kashmir include 23 Sanskrit teachers, 323 Urdu teachers and 20 regional-language teachers.
In Ladakh, the corresponding figures were one Sanskrit teacher, 33 Urdu teachers and 12 regional-language teachers.
Together, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh account for 468 of the 13,092 PM SHRI schools selected across the country, including schools under Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) and NCERT.
The national data shows that 6,102 Sanskrit teachers, 1,994 Urdu teachers and 9,152 regional-language teachers have been appointed in PM SHRI schools across India.
Jammu and Kashmir’s 427 PM SHRI schools represent around 3.3 per cent of the national total, while Ladakh’s 41 schools account for about 0.3 per cent.
The Union Government said PM SHRI is a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at strengthening more than 14,500 schools across the country. As of the date of the reply, 13,092 schools had been selected under the scheme across the States and Union Territories, including KVS, NVS and NCERT institutions.
