SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh recorded no cases of crime against foreign tourists in 2024 under the crime heads listed in the latest parliamentary data, according to the Union Government.
The information was provided in the Lok Sabha on 27 July 2026 in response to Unstarred Question No. 1299, titled “Special Tourist Police and Helpline Mechanism at Tourist Places”, raised by Shri Balya Mama Suresh Gopinath Mhatre. The reply was furnished by the Ministry of Tourism.
As per the state and Union Territory-wise data sourced from the Crime in India report, Jammu and Kashmir reported zero cases across all listed categories of crime against foreign tourists in 2024. These included murder, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, attempt to murder or culpable homicide, grievous hurt, assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty, kidnapping and abduction, rape, theft, snatching, extortion, robbery, dacoity, cheating, forgery, insult to the modesty of women, other IPC/BNS crimes, offences under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and other special and local laws.
Ladakh also recorded zero cases across all the listed crime categories in 2024.
The figures show that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh together accounted for none of the 156 cases of crimes against foreign tourists recorded across India in 2024. Nationally, the data included 11 murders, six cases of attempt to commit murder or culpable homicide, 14 cases of assault on women with intent to outrage their modesty, nine cases of kidnapping and abduction, 15 cases of rape, 40 theft cases, five cases of snatching, four robberies, one case of dacoity, nine cheating cases, one forgery case, 20 other IPC/BNS crimes, 15 cases under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and six other SLL crimes.
The parliamentary data also showed that in 2023, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh had reported no cases under any of the listed crime heads against foreign tourists. At the national level, 33 such cases were recorded that year, including six robberies, three cases of cheating, 10 other IPC/BNS crimes, six cases under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and two other special and local law offences, besides other categories listed in the reply.
The data was provided as part of the Union Government’s response concerning mechanisms for tourist safety and related arrangements at tourist destinations.
