SRINAGAR: A fresh landslide in the Dewal area of Udhampur district on Monday disrupted traffic on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, leaving around 1,700 trucks and several passenger vehicles stranded, officials said.
Authorities have suspended fresh traffic from both directions until the affected stretch is restored and declared safe for movement. No vehicles are being allowed to travel from Jammu towards Srinagar, Doda, Ramban and Patnitop, or from the Kashmir side towards Jammu, officials said.
Traffic already stranded between Udhampur and Banihal is being cleared through a single carriageway, with passenger vehicles being given priority to facilitate the movement of commuters while restoration work continues.
Officials said teams are working to clear the debris and reopen the highway at the earliest.
Commuters have been advised to avoid travelling on the highway until further orders, as the possibility of fresh landslides and shooting stones remains in vulnerable stretches.
