SRINAGAR

Police on Friday arrested Hurriyat Conference (JK) leaders, Shabir Shah, Nayeem Ahmad and other as they tried to leave for Shopian to continue their election boycott campaign.

As soon as the  delegation led by Shabir Ahmad Shah which included Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Shabir Ahmad Dar, Muhammad Yusuf Naqash, Muhammad Yasin Ataai, Ajaz Ahmad Mir and others,  started leaving for south Kashmir  a large contingent of police intercepted them and prevented them from moving ahead.

Sensing resistance from the leaders and activists of Hurriyat (JK), police arrested and lodged them in Police Station Sadder.

According to Hurriyat (JK) spokesperson, the leaders were scheduled to visit various areas of Shopian to aware people from the “negative consequences” of participating in elections under Indian Constitution.

He said, “Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir will be active in making the election boycott campaign successful at any cost. The government on one hand terms election boycott campaigns democratic but on the other hand is restricting every movement of its political opponents.”
