Former spokesman of the People’s Democratic Party in Jammu, A K Sawhney has been according to the party, expelled for indecency during a protest rally, but Sawhney says he has resigned for the party’s anti-Jammu activities.
A PDP statement said, “Sawhney was responsible for creating indecency during the rally by way of bringing a donkey and putting posters of State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on it. Vulgar language against Chief Minister was also written on those posters.”
It is perhaps the first instance where a party has expelled a functionary for a protest against its main rival.
While the party said they had initiated an inquiry into the incident and placed Sawhney under suspension already, Sawhney issued a statement to media announcing his resignation on the same day, thus creating confusion.
He accused the party of anti-Jammu and anti-Hindu politics. Sawhney joined the party few years ago and rose to become one of its main functionaries in Jammu province, where the party is striving to make inroads. politics makes strange bedfellows and Sawhney’s entry into PDP was just another example.
A former President of Jammu Bar Association, Sawhney was among the first group of lawyers to file a petition against state government’s revocation of land transfer to Amarnath Shrine Board in 2008.
