SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) on Thursday held a condolence meeting at its headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha, to pay tributes to senior party leader Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, remembering his long political career and contribution to public life.
The meeting was chaired by NC General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar and organised by Provincial President Kashmir Showkat Ahmad Mir. It was attended by Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo, Chief Minister’s Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Rajya Sabha MP and party treasurer Shammi Oberoi, senior leader Mubarak Gul, Mir Saifullah, Ali Mohammad Dar, legislators, office-bearers, district functionaries and party workers.
The programme began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by Fatiha prayers for the departed leader. Floral tributes were also paid and a moment of silence was observed in his memory.
Paying tributes, the speakers described Dr Kamal as a committed politician and a dedicated public servant who remained steadfast in his commitment to the National Conference and the people of Jammu and Kashmir. They said he played a key role in strengthening the organisation over several decades and remained a guiding force for party workers.
Ali Muhammad Sagar said Dr Kamal devoted his life to public service and upheld the party’s ideology with courage and conviction. He said the veteran leader’s death had created a void in the organisation, but his legacy of commitment, humility and service would continue to inspire future generations.
Chief Minister’s Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani remembered Dr Kamal as a leader known for his integrity, wisdom and dedication to democratic values. He said Dr Kamal had the ability to connect with people across society and always placed the interests of Jammu and Kashmir above all else.
The party leaders and workers offered prayers for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family.
The meeting concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to uphold the ideals and vision that Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal stood for during his public and political life.
