The accused, ASI Talib Hussain, is posted at Police Post Talwara and was allegedly involved in the investigation of a case, an ACB spokesperson said.

According to the spokesperson, Hussain had allegedly demanded Rs 5,000 from a complainant in exchange for presenting a charge sheet against the accused persons before a court.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and sought legal action against the police official.

The ACB conducted a discreet verification of the complaint, which corroborated the alleged demand for illegal gratification. Subsequently, a trap team headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police-rank officer was constituted.

During the trap operation, the ACB team allegedly caught Hussain red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 5,000 from the complainant, the spokesperson said.

The bribe money was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses and the ASI was arrested on the spot following due legal procedure.

A case under FIR No. 08/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, has been registered at ACB Police Station, Udhampur.

Further investigation is underway, the spokesperson said, adding that it was the second successful trap operation conducted by the ACB at Police Post Talwara in Reasi district in 2026.
