SRINAGAR: The district administration in Srinagar has announced the imposition of curfew restrictions in select areas to prevent escalation of the Coronavirus in the capital city. The restrictions are imposed under section 144 CrPc, and section 3 of the National Disaster Management Act.

The area brought under Corona curfew includes Bota Kadal, Umer Colony, Baghwan Pora, Molvi Stop, Mill Stop (Lal Bazar); Shah Anwar Colony, green Avenue Colony and Noorani Colony (Peer Bagh); Hamdania Colony, Tawheed Abad Colony, Methan (Chapora); Hamdani colony, Housing Colony, Bilala Colony and SDA Colony (Bemina).

The District Magistrate, Mohammad Aijaz, in his order, said that the cases of Coronavirus are increasing in the last 17 days and effective measures are required to prevent an escalation in the numbers. As many 63 per cent of the new cases, the order said, belonged to the areas, which are being put under curfew restrictions. Though the government had identified these belts as containment zones, it has not helped in reducing the numbers, the order said.

In the listed areas all essential activities will be permitted between 7 am and 11 am. There will no hindrance in the movement of goods and supplies, the order said. Government officials and the developmental activities will not be impacted by the curfew order. Educations, markets, shops, gyms, barber shops, restaurants shall remain closed. Social gatherings are restricted to only 20 persons.
