Poverty means no obstacle to perseverant and hardworking. NAZEER AHMAD RATHER reports on the rise of Nisar Ahamd Wani from oblivion.story

When he was asked to pay bribe for getting his RBA certificate he vowed to fight the system. But, for his battle he didn’t wanted be outside but inside the system. He suffered due to corruption so he wanted to change the system. Nisar Ahmad Wani’s long held dream of becoming an officer came true when recently the selection list of combined service examination was declared. He made it in his first attempt by securing 1209 marks.

Nisar, a 24 year old boy from Kulhama, a small hamlet near Tangmarg, made his family proud by clearing the prestigious exam. The result was a dream come true for son of the poor peasant.

“For me it was really a dream come true. I had a strong belief that I will make it to the final selection list’’, says Nisar Ahmad. A Post graduate in zoology from University of Kashmir, Nisar also has to his credit JRF (CSIR) NET.

He attributes his success to the blessing of his parents who stood by him come every time. “It is my parent’s hard work, their blessings and honest upbringing that helped me to achieve this milestone,” Nisar told Kashmir Life. “It would have been impossible without their support.”

Nisar comes from humble background but he believes poverty is no limiting factor to be successful. He says that it is the perseverance in the efforts and a firm determination that help a person to achieve his goal. “For me poverty was never an impediment or an excuse although I faced a lot of difficulties during my schooling but I never let my poverty come in my way of success,” He told Kashmir Life.

When financial sustenance emerged as problem, Nisar did not hesitate to work as labourer. He would do every kind of work to sustain himself and his family.

“I have seen a number of times Nisar working as a labourer in his locality, he would never shy away from his poverty, says Eijaz Ahmad his classmate from Batpora Kunzar.

Being humble in his approach, he says he is of an average intellect but has little faith in concept of better schools, prestigious coaching institutes or in other form of private tuitions.

“I personally feel that I am an average person as far as my intellect is concerned and for me joining a coaching institute was never possible so I had a little faith in such institutions. I always believed in myself,” Nisar opines.

He, however, gives due credit to better learning environment and inspiring friend circle. As per him he got all this in University of Kashmir

“I think it is better and inspiring environment that helps a person to shape up his career and I got it in University of Kashmir during my post-graduation programme. I believe that Kashmir University is the breeding ground for such competitive examinations. It is a place where I actually came to know about my potential as well as about my weaknesses,” says Nisar.

He believes that a work culture and inspiring faculty in University helped him to achieve success.

Voracious reader, Nisar never followed time table, however he says that he would enjoy reading a lot.

“I never read with an aim that a have a specific goal to achieve rather I would read only because I enjoyed reading as much as anything else. Reading was always a passion for me and never a compulsion,” Nisar told Kashmir Life.

Actively participating in household chores, his mother says that he used to take books with him whenever was asked to take cattle for grazing to a nearby forest even after his post-graduation.

He would take his books with him whenever he went out for taking cow for gazing, as he would get a little time at home to study,” says his mother Rafiqa Begam

Besides reading, Nisar has is in love for cattle rearing and cricket.

“Cricket and Cattle rearing are my dearest hobbies. I would always love to take my cattle out for grazing in the forest as I had been doing it since my childhood,” he told Kashmir Life.

The memory of the day when he was forced to give bribe is still fresh. Now a prospective civil servant, Nisar vows to fight menace as this is the only reason he is out there!
