Days after the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed stated that AIIMS will go to Kashmir, Bharitya Janta Party Sunday said prestigious institute will also be sanctioned for Jammu.

“We have taken the issue with the BJP high command. We have appraised the central leadership regarding hopes of the people of Jammu from the central government. I can tell you that next year AIIMS will also be constructed in Jammu,” BJP leader and speaker, Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta told KNS over phone.

However, he did not own the Chief Minister’s announcement that the AIIMS would be set up in Kashmir, saying that he would neither contradict his (Mufti Sayeed) statement nor support him over his assertion.

The BJP had said earlier that the AIIMS, as announced by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in Parliament during his Budget speech on February 28, has been sanctioned for J&K and not for Kashmir.

The Congress also opposes for denying AIIMS to Jammu and sanctioning the premier medical institute for the Valley.

“We are not against granting AIIMS to Kashmir, but we want that Jammu should also be given an AIIMS because a large population from various areas particularly Kashmir and Ladakh visits Jammu during winter, besides over one crore pilgrims and tourists,” Congress State Chief G.A Mir had told KNS.

It is pertinent to mention here that Chief Minister for the first time breaking his silence over the row told reporters in Jammu on Friday that the AIIMS will go to Kashmir while Jammu wound get IIT and IIM.

However, Deputy Chief Minister on the same day said that if Jammu and Kashmir has two central universities why not two AIIMS.
