Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a militant of Al-Badr outfit from Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A police official told GNS that special operation group (SOG) of police with the assistance of 52 RR, held a militant Irfan Ahmad Bhat @ Irra son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat resident of Panzipora Tarzoo, Sopore, against which case FIR number 153/2014 under section 7/25 I.A Act dated 18-10-2014 stands registered in Police Station Tarzoo. A pistol and a pistol magazine was recovered from his possession.

“The local boy was motivated and recruited into the Al-Badr outfit by Al-Badr District Commander Muzaffar Ahmad Naikoo @ Muz Molvi son of Abdul Majeed Naikoo resident of Baghat Sopore, with a view to build a network of Al-Badr operatives for the execution of various militant actions in and around Sopore”, he said.

The official said after being indoctrinated with Jihadi ideology and positioned into the said militant outfit, the militant was assigned with various tasks of couriering the weapons and money, identifying the targets vis-a-vis security installations and carry out the grenade attacks on VIP rallies, police and security forces on the directions of said commander @ Muz Molvi.

The involvement of said militant in other actions of subversive actions is being investigated. Police have requested the parents to keep a close look at over their children and keep them away from these elements.
