Describing Sheikh Abdullah as an unparalleled leader in Jammu and Kashmir’s history, Sagar emphasised honouring his monumental contributions to the region’s social and political landscape. He credited Sheikh Abdullah’s visionary leadership with awakening the people from centuries of servitude and championing dignity, democratic rights, and social justice.

“Sher-e-Kashmir was a beacon of hope against despair, tirelessly advocating for the people’s rights and freedoms. His selfless sacrifices paved the way for a prosperous future,” Sagar said.

Sagar highlighted the enduring relevance of Sheikh Abdullah’s legacy, pointing to the National Conference’s resonance with the people as reflected in recent elections. He said reinstating the holiday would not only honor Sheikh Abdullah’s contributions but also recognise the people’s sacrifices and strengthen democratic institutions.

“Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah remains the guiding light for Jammu and Kashmir. His values and vision steer this troubled land toward prosperity. Ignoring his contributions denies the people their rightful heritage,” Sagar added.

He called on the government to act promptly, stressing that respecting Sheikh Abdullah’s legacy is a matter of historical justice and acknowledging the unshakable bond between him and the people. (KNT)
