Jammu

A delegation of the All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference, an organization of Panches and Sarpanches, called on NN Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan, here today and presented to him a Memorandum of their demands. Among the issues raised by the delegation, the Governor was most seriously concerned to hear about the security problems faced by the Sarpanches and Panches.

As per a statement the 11-member delegation led by Shafiq Mir, chairman, All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference, discussed with the Governor up to date status of the functioning of Panchayats in the state and complained about effective measures not so far having been taken for their empowerment.

The delegation was also dissatisfied about the provisions of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment not so far being incorporated in the existing law for ensuring empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions in the state.

The Governor assured the Panchayat Conference that all the issues raised by them would be taken up with the Chief Minister.
