SRINAGAR: Altaf Hussain Haji, ISS, joined as Director, National Sample Survey Organisation (Field Operations Division) Regional Office, Sonwar, Srinagar, Friday. The order to this effect was issued by Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India on April 24, 2014.
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation is the cadre controlling authority of Indian Statistical Services (Central Civil Service) created during 1963.
Haji is the only ISS Officer from Kashmir region. He joined service in 2001 after qualifying the Indian Statistical Service (ISS) Examination 2000 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. He is also the first Director who joined NSSO (FOD) Srinagar since the office was established.
Haji has made significant contributions in the capacity of Regional Assistant Director, Deputy Director and Joint Director towards the smooth conduct of various types of surveys. These surveys are crucial for planning and policy formation at both the Central and State government levels. His contribution towards conduct of socio-economic surveys in difficult areas like Ladakh is especially praise worthy.
