SRINAGAR: The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra will remain suspended on both routes from August 9 to facilitate restoration and maintenance of vulnerable stretches of the pilgrimage tracks following recent rains, officials said on Saturday.
The 57-day pilgrimage, which began on July 3 from the traditional Pahalgam route and the Baltal route, will continue to its scheduled culmination with Chadi Mubarak on August 28, the administration said.
More than 4.8 lakh pilgrims have performed darshan at the Holy Shrine so far this year.
According to the administration, the recent rainfall has necessitated repair and maintenance work along vulnerable portions of the Yatra tracks. The restoration work is being undertaken by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg said adverse weather conditions had also been forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) over the coming days, prompting the decision to suspend the pilgrimage from both routes from August 9.
The administration has urged pilgrims to follow advisories issued by the competent authorities in the interest of their safety and the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
Chadi Mubarak will proceed through the traditional Pahalgam route and mark the formal culmination of the 2026 Yatra on August 28.
