SRINAGAR: Security agencies were put on high alert at Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport in Amritsar around 10 pm on Sunday after two to four suspected drones or drone-like flying objects were spotted near the runway, CNN-News18 reported.
According to the report, the objects were seen approaching the airport from the direction of Rajala village before hovering over the runway and other sensitive areas for several minutes.
The Air Traffic Control (ATC) alerted security agencies after the objects were sighted, prompting heightened security measures at the airport.
As a precaution, seven incoming flights were diverted to Delhi and Chandigarh, the report said.
Among the affected flights were Malaysia Airlines flight MH-118 from Kuala Lumpur to Amritsar, which was diverted to Delhi, and IndiGo flights 6E-5028 from Mumbai and 6E-2045 from Delhi, both of which were diverted to Chandigarh.
Air India flight AI-479, operating from Delhi to Amritsar, was also diverted to Delhi.
