SRINAGAR: Security forces on Monday recovered a cache of arms and ammunition after uncovering a suspected militant hideout in the Naikpora Memender area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said.
The operation was conducted jointly by Jammu and Kashmir Police, 44 Rashtriya Rifles and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) following specific intelligence inputs, officials said.
During searches in an orchard, the security personnel located the suspected hideout and recovered an AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines and 60 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.
The recovered material also included a pistol, one grenade and six rounds of 9 mm ammunition, officials said.
Further investigation has been initiated to establish the source of the weapons and determine their intended use, officials added.
