An army trooper was injured critically after his service rifle went off accidentally at Chokibal area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday.

A police official told GNS that Sepoy Deeraj Kumar of 22 Grenadier who was performing his sentry duty at Chokibal army camp when his service rifle went off accidentally resulting in his serious injuries.

The injured trooper was immediately shifted to military institute Drugmulla where from he was referred to army’s 92 base hospital here in Srinagar for specialized treatment, the official said.

Meanwhile an army trooper was shot at and injured by a Pakistani sniper in Krishna Ghati sector Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

Officials said that Lance Naik Bopinder Singh of army’s 22 Sikh Regiment was performing his duty at Nangi Tekri post along the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector Poonch district when a sniper from Pakistan Rangers fired a single shot towards him today morning.

Singh, they said was instantly evacuated to military hospital Udhampur where his condition is said to be critical.

The official said that the soldiers manning the fence also retaliated the fire which continued intermittently for several hours.
