The mother of one of the three persons arrested for abusing Kashmiri girls of band ‘Pragaash’ on Thursday demanded action against the grand mufti of the state who had issued a fatwa recently.

The mother of accused Irshad Ahmad Chara said her son had nothing to do with the abuse, but the police arrested him. She said Jammu and Kashmir’s Grand Mufti Bashiruddin, who had issued the fatwa against the all-girl band calling it un-Islamic, should have been arrested.

“My kid was sleeping when the police came and picked him up. What has the kid to do with this all? Everyone uses Facebook. If grand mufti said something, why punish these boys? Catch hold of the mufti,” the woman said.

Meanwhile, a human rights lawyer, Parvez Imroz, said that the grand mufti was a self-appointed authority and he would challenge his status.
