SRINAGAR: The health administration in Kashmir has closed the operation theatre of privately run Ramzaan Hospital and halted any surgery. The decision came after reports of medical negligence in two cases.

The hospital managers have been asked not to carry out any surgery till the enquiry into the incidents of medical negligence is completed. The Operation Theatre has been sealed.

The intervention came after Chief Medical Officer Srinagar took note of the death of a young lady, who died after a surgical procedure. The lady was admitted to the hospital on August 25, for childbirth but died. The family alleged medical negligence.

On September 9, another similar case was reported. A woman from Naik Bagh, Nowgam, also died and the family alleged medical negligence. Again, protests broke out.

The private hospital is accused of messing the cases and later referring them to the major hospitals.

Health officials said they had decided to seal the hospital but that would create grave inconvenience to patients, so they choose to seal the OT only.
