Bear, Cub Caught, Srinagar Is Safe After 21 Hours of Chase

SRINAGAR: After about 21 hours of consistent chase to locate and tranquilise the bear and her cub, the Wildlife officials finally neutralised the two at around 2 am, officials said.

The wild bear had created fear and school managers were in a fix about whether they should open the schools or close them. The bear had attacked a school guard and left him injured. Now the schools must open normally, officials said.

Regional Wildlife Warden, Rashid Naqash confirmed the capture.

“After 21 hours non stop operation, Black Bear spotted yesterday in Rajbagh area has been tranquillised. Great job by the team led by Wildlife Department, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Aijaz Asad said in a tweet. “Area has been scanned and sanitized. All Educational institutions in the area shall open normally as per daily routine”.
