SRINAGAR: The District Administration Bandipora has advised shops, hotels and other commercial establishments across the district to install and maintain functional CCTV surveillance systems as part of preventive security measures.
The advisory was issued by District Magistrate Indu Kanwal Chib, JKAS, on October 7, 2026, following a communication from Senior Superintendent of Police Bandipora on the importance of CCTV surveillance for preventing and detecting criminal and anti-social activities.
The administration said CCTV footage from commercial premises could provide crucial visual evidence during investigations and assist police and other authorities in maintaining public safety, security and public order.
Owners, occupants, managers and persons responsible for business premises have been urged to comply with the advisory and facilitate the installation of functional CCTV systems.
The administration said the installation of cameras would be inspected by the police in coordination with Municipal Councils and Municipal Committees, wherever applicable.
It clarified that the advisory was primarily preventive in nature and aimed at encouraging voluntary adoption of CCTV surveillance by commercial establishments in the larger public interest.
The measure will be reviewed periodically in light of the prevailing security situation and emerging public safety requirements.
