Education Ministry has “co-located” – shifted away from the spot of actual sanction, 3582 schools across the state. This is part of the “rationalization” process that the new government initiated after taking over early this year. It has speared more than 5500 teachers for their redeployment in areas where they are required.

Under the process, schools having zero-enrolment or the institutions lacking the candidates less than 15. The government said 146 schools were detected to be not having a student at all and were literally ghost schools. Besides, there were 3600 other schools which had enrolment not exceeding 15 candidates each.

Of the 3582 schools co-located under the rationalization process, Jammu tops the list with 331 followed by Udhampur with 245, 188 in Kathua and 177 in Rajouri. Other districts include 124 in Samba, 76 in Reasi, 86 in Kishtwar, 26 in Ramban, 124in Doda, 157 in Poonch, 173 in Budgam, 111 in Shopian, 139 in Kulgam, 119 in Srinagar, 91 in Ganderbal, 195 in Islamabad, 178 in Pulwama, 517 in Baramulla, 186 in Bandipore, 39 in Kargil, 292 in Kupwara and eight in Leh.
