Police on Wednesday slapped PSA on a Baramulla youth and shifted him to Sub-jail Kupwara. The youth who has been identified as  Zahoor Ahmed Mala son of Bashir Ahmed resident of Old Town Baramulla was arrested by police on the charges of stone-pelting on April 27 last month.

Police sources told CNS that Zahoor Ahmed was first arrested in 2010 on the charges of stone-pleting and that time he was lodged in police station vide FIR number 36/2010. “Even after his release he continued to indulge in stone-pleting and was wanted to police in other cases as well,” a police official said, adding that last time he was arrested after police recovered fukki from his possession near Boniyar Baramulla.

“He is in custody under various sections of law including 148, 149, 332, 336, 307, 427 of RPC. Yes, we slapped Public Safety Act on him to prevent him from indulging in any illegal activities,” SP Baramulla Mir Suhail said.

Police said that at least one dozen FIR’s have been lodged against him in different police stations for his ‘involvement’ in stone-pelting, arson, damaging public property and attack police personnel.

Meanwhile, the family of Zahoor Ahmed refuted the police claims and staged a protest outside police station Baramulla. The mother of the ‘accused’ Zoona Begum said that his son was bailed out by court on April 27, but police re-arrested him on the same day and implicated him in another ‘false’ case. Reports said that there was traffic jam in Baramulla after Zoona Begum and the other relatives of the arrested youth blocked the road. Police said that some youth resorted to stone-pelting, however, they exercised restraint.
