A Hizbul Mujahideen militant, Shakeel Ahmad Kasana was killed after he was injured critically in a grenade attack at Batamalo, Wednesday, afternoon.

Shakeel was an under trial, undergoing detention under Public Safety Act (PSA).

Shakeel, a resident of Akhal village of Kangan in Ganderbal district, was a Hizbul Mujahideen militant who was arrested last year under Section 7/25 of the Arms Act and slapped with the Public Safety Act, sources said.

The grenade was lobbed by suspected militants on a police vehicle carrying Shakil to Baramulla district jail from Panthachowk police station, police sources said.

The grenade landed and exploded inside the vehicle, injuring four policemen and Shakeel, who later succumbed at a hospital, they said.
